Cons

  • Limited cleaning
  • No registry scanning

Our Verdict

While CleanMyPC is easy to use, performance issues mean you are best off sticking to the free version for basic tools or putting your money elsewhere.

MacPaw, as the name suggests, might be focused on software for Apple devices but also makes a Windows cleaner aptly called CleanMyPC. I’ve put it through its paces to see if it’s worth your time.

Note: CleanMyPC is no longer being developed by MacPaw. You can still buy and use it, but you will only receive critical bug fixes going forward and support won’t go beyond Windows 11.

Features & Performance

CleanMyPC is easy to install, taking up less than 50MB, and you can use it for free – although that comes with limitations. I’ve tested the paid-for version here.

The opening screen asking which of three tasks you’d like to perform first (Speed up my computer, Free up hard drive space and Get rid of junk), although it resulted in a short tour of the interface rather than any scanning or cleaning.

CleanMyPC intro

The main feature here is the My Computer Cleanup which only took a matter of seconds to complete a scan of my laptop’s two drives, stating that 1.8GB could be removed.

It doesn’t take long to carry out the task but here’s where you’re slapped with the inevitable limitation of the free version which will only remove 500MB. Grab the paid version (details of license options below) and you can continue.

In the end, CleanMyPC managed 1.68GB as some items “cannot be accessed”. For comparison, CCleaner Professional managed 3.09GB total.

It’s good to see a comprehensive breakdown of the flagged files into different categories so you can decide which ones to remove or leave alone.

CleanMyPC delete files

There are several other tools in the software with Hibernation proclaiming 6.34GB can be saved but this disables your system hibernation file meaning, for a laptop, you can’t use that feature of Windows. So, only use this if you’re really desperate to free up some space.

Tools such as Multi Uninstaller, Extensions and Autorun are really shortcuts to things you can already find in Window 10’s settings, but in a slightly more user-friendly way. There’s little in the way of additional information though, such as highlighting applications that haven’t been used in a long time, for example.

You can see how much space they are taking up, but this is easy enough to find out in the Windows settings menu where you can sort installed apps by size. CleanMyPC does let you uninstall many in one go and claims to get rid of files that would otherwise be left behind when uninstalling, even for applications that were there before you added MacPaw.

CleanMyPC autorun

Autorun is likely an area where you can gain some speed as it will point out which apps are loading when you boot Windows and are often doing so without you knowing.

The remaining sections highlight your privacy setting for web browsers and securely delete files or folders if you know what you want to remove without it ending up somewhere like the recycle bin.

Price

CleanMyPC is available as a free download with a number of different license options for the paid version.

You can buy a single license (for one PC) for £34.95/US$39.95 on an auto-renewing annual subscription which includes ‘major upgrades’ and technical support sitting it in between rivals. Prices for two or five licenses cost £51.95 or £74.95 after discounts.

Alternatively, you can pay a one-time fee to own CleanMyPC forever including the same technical support, but you will have to pay extra if you want future upgrades. This costs £76.95, £115.95 and £167.95 for one, two and five license packs.

Verdict

MacPaw CleanMyPC is quick and easy to use with a simple interface and a price cheaper than some rivals. It’s also one of the smallest if you’re limited on space to even install a PC cleaner app.

However, the software ran into a few issues such as not being able to access some files to delete and the Registry Maintenance section is missing in action. Other tools are decent enough, but you needn’t pay for a license to use them, so your money is better spent elsewhere if you need more than the free edition.

Cleaning suite for desktop

CleanMyPC is a paid utility tool developed by MacPaw Inc. to take better care of your Windows desktop's health and performance system. It is a fully comprehensive cleaning software solution that will help you keep your PC free of any malware and useless files that eat up valuable disk space. Most important of all, it has the capability to remarkably speed-up your computer.

Easy and provides full control

With just a few simple clicks you can delete unnecessary files that tend to mount-up and waste valuable disk space such as temporary files, disk images, and all types of caches. This desktop clean-up solution can go very deep that it can possibly remove your ‘Most Recent' list in various applications, including Excel and Word once you've used it.

CleanMyPC is clearly presented and its strongest point is that it gives you full control over what you clean. If you wish to only scrape your Firefox browser, you can have all the liberty to select only programs that you want to clean. What's more, it also gives you authority to clean only parts of applications that you want to such as cache, language files, and temp files.

You need to be extra careful, however, especially when enabling it to clear up language files that you can possibly need later on. The entire process will be quick and you will always be updated on the status of the process with a status bar.

Is CleanMyPC safe?

CleanMyPC is guaranteed to be a safe cleaning program that you can add to your PC. It presents zero risks to your Windows system or user files. On top of that, it is equipped with a built-in Safety Database and intelligent analytic mechanisms during its entire scanning process. It aids to increase a superior system optimization tool, performs registry maintenance, and integrates an uninstaller. This solution tool eliminates files securely and accurately without leaving even a single bit.

Keep PC system neat

CleanMyPC is an elegant and excellentcleaning software that gives you maximum control over how you tidy up your desktop device. Its scanning process is highly-protected by a Safety Database that can be found within the app. Moreover, it is accurate and precise in removing unnecessary files. However, you still need to take extra precautions in some types as there are chances that the files you will probably need in the future will be eradicated.

  • There will be no updates released, only critical bug fixes.
  • Windows 11 is the last OS version to be supported by CleanMyPC.

CleanMyPC Review

CleanMyPC

Alex Sayers

Effectiveness: Win back storage space & keep PC running smoothly
Price: A one-time payment of $39.95 per PC
Ease of Use: Intuitive, quick and good looking
Support: Email support and an online FAQ available

Summary

Available for Windows users and priced at just $39.95 for a single-PC license, CleanMyPC is a simple to use, lightweight piece of software for cleaning unwanted files from your computer, optimizing Windows start-up times, and ensuring your PC runs smoothly.

The program is made up of eight distinct tools, including a disk cleaner, a registry “fixer”, a secure file deletion tool, and an uninstaller.

What I Like: A clean, simple, and easy-to-use user interface. Users can quickly recover a large amount of hard drive space. Added tools like Uninstaller and the Autorun manager are handy and simple to use.

What I Don’t Like: Secure Erase added to context menus with no option to remove it. Alerts can be irritating after a while.

Over the course of this review, you’ll see that I found the software both easy to use and effective. It cleaned up more than 5GB of unwanted files from my PC and fixed more than 100 registry issues in a matter of minutes. Aimed at users who want an all-in-one solution to keeping their PC fresh, CleanMyPC incorporates many existing Windows tools and builds on them to offer a simple and non-technical option for computer maintenance.

We’ve also tested CleanMyMac, another maintenance tool made for Mac users, also from MacPaw. I called it “perhaps the best Mac cleaning app” out there. Today, I’ll be taking a look at CleanMyPC, the Windows-based alternative, to see whether MacPaw can replicate that success for PC users.

It is a suite of tools designed to help you clean up unwanted files from your PC and ensure it continues running smoothly and quickly.

While the main attraction is its “cleaning” service, a scan of your computer for any unnecessary files that may be taking up space, it offers eight tools in total, including a service for cleaning up your PC’s registry, an uninstaller tool, options for managing auto-run settings, and a browser extension manager.

No, it isn’t. While there is a free trial, and it’s free to download, you will be limited to a one-time 500MB cleanup and up to 50 items fixed in your registry. The free trial should be viewed as more of a demo than a free version, as most users will hit those limits almost immediately.

How Much Does CleanMyPC Cost?

If you do want to go beyond the free trial, you’ll need to purchase a license. It’s available for $39.95 for a single PC, $59.95 for two, or $89.95 for the “Family Pack” with codes for five computers. See full pricing here.

Yes, it is. I downloaded the program from the developer’s website and have had no issues after installing it on two separate PCs. Nothing has been flagged as malware or a virus, and I’ve had no compatibility issues with any other software.

CleanMyPC should be pretty safe for you to use, too. It won’t delete anything vital from your PC, and it gives you a chance to change your mind before you delete anything at all. I’ve experienced no issues with the program deleting anything that it shouldn’t. However, it’s worth saying here that it always pays to take a little care to make sure you’re not accidentally removing anything important.

I would like to see the inclusion of an alert to backup your registry before running the registry cleaner, however. It’s a feature that has long been part of CCleaner, a rival product to CleanMyPC, and it offers a little more security and peace of mind when dealing with something so delicate and vital to your computer as the registry. Likewise, a little more detail about what exact files are being deleted during a cleanup would be welcome, if only to remove all doubt about what’s being done.

Important Update: CleanMyPC is going to partially sunset. Starting from December 2021, it won’t receive regular updates, only critical ones. Also, there will be no subscription option to purchase, only a one-time license for $39.95. And Windows 11 is the last OS version to be supported by CleanMyPC.

Why Trust Me for This CleanMyPC Review

My name is Alex Sayers. I’ve been using many different PC maintenance tools for at least 12 years now, always looking for ways to improve and streamline my PC use. For several years, I’ve tested and written about software too, trying to give readers an unbiased look at the tools on offer from an amateur’s point of view.

After downloading CleanMyPC from the MacPaw website, I’ve been testing every feature of the software for a few days, comparing it to similar tools that I’ve used in the past across two Windows PCs with different hardware and software onboard.

In writing this review, I’ve tested every feature of CleanMyPC, from the baseline cleanup options to the “shredder” facility, taking the time to get to know the software in detail. Over the course of this article, you should get a good idea of whether this tool is right for you, and get a look at the features and pros and cons of using it.

Detailed Review of CleanMyPC

So we’ve taken a look at what the software offers and how you can get your hands on it, and now I’ll run through each of the eight tools that it provides to see what benefits it can bring to your PC.

PC Cleanup

We’ll start with the main selling point of this cleaning program, its file cleanup tool.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that, having not done a scan for a few weeks, CleanMyPC found just over 1GB more unneeded files to delete than CCleaner did – around 2.5GB of cache, temp, and memory dump files in total.

CCleaner does give you the option of seeing exactly which files have been found and flagged for deletion, something which the MacPaw program lacks, but there’s no denying that CleanMyPC does a thorough search of your hard drive.

As a nice added touch, you can also set a size limit on your recycle bin through CleanMyPC, flagging it to automatically empty if it gets too full. Also in the options menu is the choice to allow the cleaning of attached USB devices, saving you space on your USB drives and external HDDs.

The cleanup process is as simple as can be, with just a “scan” and a “clean” button being all that stands between users and plenty of reclaimed disk space. The scan and clean were quick too, both on SSDs and older HDDs, and the checkbox list of discovered items gives you some control over what files you delete.

Registry Cleaner

Just as with the cleaning application, CleanMyPC appeared to be much more thorough in its search for registry “issues” to fix than CCleaner was, finding 112 in total while Piriform’s software identified just seven.

Again, the scan was simple to run and quick to complete. The vast majority of issues identified by these two programs–and any others I’ve ever tried, for that matter–are issues which users would never have noticed, however, so it’s difficult to assess the effect that a quick registry cleanup like this might have on your PC. Still, it’s reassuring that MacPaw has made their tool so thorough in performing its duties.

As I mentioned earlier, I do wish that CleanMyPC had a built-in option for backing up your registry before you start “fixing” items in it, if just for a little peace of mind, but it is something that you can do manually outside of the program if you choose.

Uninstaller

CleanMyPC’s Uninstaller function comes in two parts. First, it runs the selected program’s own uninstaller, the one that the developer built, and then it runs CleanMyPC’s own service to tidy up the files and extensions typically left behind by the uninstallation process.

It’s unlikely that you’ll regain much disk space from a function like this. In my experience, it’s usually just empty folders left behind or registry associations. It could, though, help to keep everything organized and structured on your disk and avoid any registry issues in the future.

This process was quick and simple, so I see no reason not to use it if you don’t trust a program’s built-in uninstaller to remove every last hint of itself.

Hibernation

Hibernation files are used by Windows as part of an ultra-low power state called, you guessed it, hibernation. Used mostly on laptops, hibernation is a way for your computer to consume practically no power at all while still remembering your files and the PC’s state before you switch it off. It’s similar to sleep mode, but instead of open files being stored in RAM until the computer is woken up again, information is saved to your hard drive to consume less power.

Desktop users will usually never make use of this function, but Windows creates and stores hibernation files all the same, potentially taking up a large chunk of disk space. In my case, Windows was apparently using a little more than 3GB for hibernation, and CleanMyPC offers a quick way to both delete the files and switch off the hibernation function entirely.

Extensions

The program’s built-in extension manager is a simple tool for removing unwanted browser extensions and Windows gadgets, displaying a list of each extension enabled in all of the browsers installed on your PC.

With the click of a button, any extension can be uninstalled in seconds. Perhaps it’s not useful for most users, but it might be a lifesaver for those whose browsers are cluttered with multiple add-ons or those who want to clean multiple browsers at once.

It could also be handy if your browser or an extension is either corrupted or infected with malware. Often malicious or corrupted extensions and add-ons will prevent the browser from being opened or remove your ability to uninstall the offending item, and CleanMyPC might be a good way to work around that.

Autorun

Staying on top of run-at-startup programs is a simple way of keeping your PC running quickly, and slow boot-up times are one of the biggest complaints that people often have with older PCs that haven’t been looked after. Quite often multiple programs can be added to the startup list without users realizing it, which adds seconds of boot-up time with no real benefit to the user.

Managing which programs run when you start Windows is a fairly simple process without making use of any additional software. However, MacPaw’s tools do a good job of presenting a simple list to users, complete with an ‘on-off’ switch for each item.

The one thing I would like to see included in future versions is a way to add to your list of startup programs. Again, it is something which can be done manually outside of CleanMyPC, but it would be a nice touch to be able to both add and remove programs in one place.

Privacy

The privacy tab allows you to manage what information is stored in each of your installed browsers, with the option to individually clear caches, saved history, sessions, and cookie information from each one.

It’s something that could be managed manually with the options built into each browser, but CleanMyPC’s interface offers a quick and simple way to manage them all at once. It’s a worthwhile thing to have if you’re giving your entire PC a refresh.

Shredder

The final tool in MacPaw’s suite is the “shredder”, a method of securely erasing files and folders from your computer that you want to be unrecoverable. Designed with sensitive information in mind, like financial records or password files, Shredder deletes the files you select and then overwrites them up to three times to ensure that they can’t be brought back.

There are other tools out there that do the same job. Both they and the Shredder facility do a good job of granting you some peace of mind when handling sensitive information or disposing of an old HDD.

Reasons Behind My Ratings

Effectiveness: 4/5

CleanMyPC works well. It quickly identified a lot of files taking up space on both of the PCs I tested it on. It found more than 100 registry issues to fix and made quick work of uninstalling programs and managing the extensions and autorun settings that I asked it to.

There are some minor missing features that I’d like to see added — registry backups, the option to add autorun programs, and a more detailed display of the files it intends to delete — but those are small tweaks that possibly wouldn’t be missed by most users.

Price: 4/5

Even though the program comes with a limited trial, it is clearly intended more as a brief demo than a free stripped-back version of the full program. You’ll hit its limits very soon after installation.

While it’s true that all of the features could be replicated with a suite of free alternatives, CleanMyPC packages them well in an easy-to-use form and takes some of the technical know-how out of your hands. And for some people, $39.95 is a small price to pay for a hassle-free approach to PC maintenance.

Ease of Use: 5/5

I can’t fault how easy it is to use CleanMyPC. Within the few short minutes I had downloaded and installed the program, my PC had been scanned and I was already reclaiming space from unwanted files.

Not only is it quick and easy to use, but the layout and look of the UI is great, too. It’s clean and simple, presenting all of the information that you need without having to click through complex menus or understand technical jargon.

Support: 3/5

Support from MacPaw is good. There’s an extensive online knowledge base for CleanMyPC, they have an email form through which you can contact their team, and you can download a 21-page manual from their website for the program.

I do think it would be great, however, if they offered phone support or an online chat on their website. Even help via social media would be a welcome addition, especially for families paying almost $90 for a set of licenses.

Alternatives to CleanMyPC

CleanMyPC is good, but it might not be for everyone. While it is easy to use and offers an all-in-one approach to PC maintenance, many people won’t need or use all of the features available, and some might instead look for more in-depth versions of a particular function.

If CleanMyPC doesn’t take your fancy, here are three alternatives that provide similar functionality (you can also see our PC cleaner review for more options):

  • CCleaner – Developed by Piriform, CCleaner offers a very similar cleanup and registry fixing service. The premium version adds scheduling, support, and real-time monitoring.
  • System Mechanic – Claiming to provide a 229-point diagnostic check of your PC, this software offers several tools for cleaning your disk, speeding up your computer, and boosting performance.
  • Glary Utilities Pro – A suite of tools from Glarysoft, Glary Utilities offers many of the same features while also adding disk defragmentation, driver backups, and malware protection.

CleanMyPC vs CCleaner

For several years now, I’ve been a big fan of CCleaner, a disk cleanup tool from Piriform (later acquired by Avast), that I use personally on my PCs and recommend to friends and family.

A little later on in this review I’ll show you a comparison of the disk cleaning tools within CleanMyPC and CCleaner, but those aren’t the only similarities that the tools share. Both programs also include a registry cleaner (again, compared further down the page), a browser plugin manager, autorun program organizer, and an uninstaller tool.

For the most part, the tools on offer from each are very similar – they function in a very similar way and produce comparable results. CCleaner does have some nice added extras that I feel could improve CleanMyPC, such as scheduled cleanups, disk monitoring, and a disk analyzer, but I’d be lying if I told you that I’d used any of those additional tools with any regularity.

Take a look through my results in the rest of the review and decide for yourself which of these tools is right for you. CCleaner does, for me, have the edge in terms of the number of options and customizability available, but it’s undeniable that CleanMyPC is more user-friendly and probably a better option for less advanced users.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for an all-in-one solution for your PC maintenance, you can’t go far wrong with CleanMyPC.

From clearing up space and shortening boot times to secure file disposal and registry fixes, this program does offer something for everyone. While advanced PC users might not make use of all of the tools, or might work around them using built-in Windows alternatives, it is a handy program to fall back on if you’re looking to quickly give your computer a refresh.

If only for its ease of use, intuitive design, and efficiency when searching out unwanted files to delete, CleanMyPC is a worthwhile addition to any PC user’s maintenance toolbox.

So, how do you like CleanMyPC? What’s your thought on this CleanMyPC review? Leave a comment and let us know.

What is MacPaw CleanMyPC?

MacPaw’s CleanMyPC is a PC tuner application designed to bring your sluggish and nearly lifeless computer back into tip-top condition. This beautifully designed application is powerful, and it is especially good at cleaning up and fixing registry mess.

The application is designed to scan computer files and find out those that you really don’t need and safely remove. However, despite all its charms, there are a few drawbacks that might make people look into alternatives.

CleanMyPC is a more suitable option for those who have some technical knowledge as most of the times, it will not give enough information about the files that it suggests for removal. This might lead to confusion for those who are not so technically inclined.

MacPaw CleanMyPC is available for users who are using Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7. It has three different license plans to select from that include a single PC license, a two PC license, and Family Pack license that covers five PC.

CleanMyPC is slightly on the higher end of the price spectrum. The single PC license will cost you $39.95, while the double PC license will cost $59.95. In case you are looking for the Family Pack, it will set you back by $99.95.

While the license choices are great, they don’t really come close to Iolo that allows you install System Mechanic on as many PCs as you wish to for a meager $ 49.95. That’s a steal if you are looking forward to use a PC tune-up utility on multiple PCs in your household. However, if you are looking for installing such software on a single PC, CleanMyPC is definitely a cheaper option.

The application is very lightweight and installs quickly. The overall interface is clean with a pleasant color theme that plays with blue and white. Navigation is simple with a left menu arranged vertically from where you can access everything including from registry maintenance to hibernation, to autorun, privacy, extension, etc.

Whatever you see on the left menu are essentially different tools that can find various errors with your system and remove those issues. It can even find and delete junk files to clean up space on your system hard disk.

Before I dig deep into the review, let me walk you through the pros and cons of CleanMyPC. A quick look at the strengths and weaknesses of the application will help you to decide whether you want to use this application on not.

Let’s begin…

The Pros and Cons of CleanMyPC

Just like every software application you can find, CleanMyPC has its own set of pros and cons. You need to understand that nothing can be without flaws. So, here are the strengths and weaknesses of CleanMyPC:

The Pros

  • Very simple and neatly-designed user interface.
  • Capable of recovering a large amount of disk space.
  • Additional tools like Autorun and Uninstallers are pretty handy.
  • Application is fast and lightweight, with a very small footprint.
  • Fixes invalid registry entries and improves processing time.
  • Free version available.

The Cons

  • Adds secure-delete to the options menu. You just cannot remove it.
  • Notifications are quite intrusive at times.
  • Customization options are very limited.
  • Free version can clean only 500 MB of junk.
  • Pretty expensive.

Okay, now that you are aware of the pros and cons of the application, it is about time I walk you through the detailed review of the application.

CleanMyPC – UI and Features

As I told at the beginning of the review, the interface of CleanMyPC is beautifully designed. When you start the application for the first time, you will notice a left menu and a big blue ‘Scan’ button on the right.

This is how it looks like:

There are eight tools on the left and the major option is always the first one – Computer Cleanup. That’s the main selling point of the application, because that is what it has been designed for.

When you click on the scan button, the application will start scanning your computer and find out all that can be deleted without affecting the system or causing a loss of private data. Once the scan is complete, this is what you will notice:

You can see the details by clicking on the ‘Show Details’ link. The details you get from the ensuing page is not really satisfactory. This is what you will see when you click on the show details link:

You can, of course, choose to clean everything in one sweep by clicking the Clean button or you can remove everything manually by clicking on the Remove manually link at the bottom right corner.

Now, as I said earlier, you can remove only 500 MB of junk with the free version. To ensure that everything is removed, you have to get a license. This is what you will see when you are using the free version and the amount of junk identified by the application is more than 500 MB:

Another nice touch that you will find in CleanMyPC is that you can set the size of the recycle bin. If the files in the recycle bin exceeds that limit, the bin will be emptied automatically. To access this setting, you need to click on the options link you see on the top. There is a small cog icon beside it.

The default size of the recycle bin is set at 2 GB. However, you can use the slider to set a limit manually. This is what you will see:

Finding redundant files and cleaning them requires simple clicks. There are no complex operations involved, making the overall user experience a pleasant one.

The next option in the menu is the Registry Maintenance. Clicking on that option will show this screen:

Hitting the Scan Registry button will immediately find issues and give you the option of fixing them. As before, you can check or uncheck certain boxes and decide what to fix and what not to fix.

Clicking the Fix Registry button at the bottom will start resolving the issue. However, if you are using the free option, you can fix only 50 issues. To fix the remaining, you need to buy a license.

Here is what you will see when you use the free version:

The next tab is the Multi Uninstaller tab that will allow you to uninstall unused programs on your computer. Clicking on the tab will scan for all installed applications. Once the scan is complete, it will list all of them. You can select or unselect from the list.

Once you select all the applications that you want to the CleanMyPC will uninstall the apps. There are two phases in which this particular tool works.

First, CleanMyPC will use the built-in uninstallers of the selected apps (that is, the uninstallers built inside those applications by their respective developers) to uninstall them.

Once the uninstallation is complete, the tidy-up service of CleanMyPC kicks in and removes leftover elements, which are usually empty folders and registry associations. Removing registry associations is important, because in the future, those leftover associations can cause system issues.

The overall process is quite simple and everything happens quickly. You don’t have to worry about anything else. Just select the ones that you want to uninstall and click on the Uninstall button at the bottom.

The next tool is the Hibernation tool. Before I tell you what it does, it is important to understand what hibernation is in the first place. There are certain files on your computer that are known as hibernation files. Windows uses these files as a part of state called hibernation, which is an ultra-low power state.

This is mostly used in laptops. Hibernation is a method in which your computer will consume practically no power at all and yet, it will remember the state of your PC and the files in use right before you turn it off.

Hibernation is quite similar to the sleep mode with the main difference being that in the sleep mode, the files are stored in the RAM (until you wake up the computer again), while in the hibernation mode, they are stored on your computer’s hard disk. The sleep mode consumes a lot more power compared to what is consumed in the hibernation mode.

Hibernation is a useful tool for laptop users. It is not really useful for desktop users who keep their PCs hooked to a power outlet. Despite the fact that desktop users rarely use hibernation mode, Windows creates and stores those hibernation files anyway! This eats up a large amount of disk space.

With CleanMyPC, you can not only delete the hibernation files that your computer is generating and save some valuable disk space, but also turn off the hibernation function completely.

In my case, hibernation was turned off anyway. So, I had to do nothing. If your PC has hibernation enabled, make sure that you are using this tool to turn off hibernation completely.

The next tool in queue is the Extensions tool that allows you to manage browser extensions and Windows gadgets. This tool will find and list all the browser extensions from all browsers that are installed on your PC.

I don’t think this particular tool will be of great help to most of the users, but if your browsers are cluttered with many extensions, you will find this one to be an interesting tool. Also, if some of the extensions are infected by malware and prevent opening the browser or prevent uninstallation of the extensions, CleanMyPC will be a great way to get around them and get rid of them.

Again, the uninstallation process is simple. All you need to do is select the extensions that you want to uninstall and then click on the Clean button that you see at the bottom. That’s all!

The next tool is the Autorun tool that will allow you to manage the applications that run on startup. If there are too many applications that start running on startup, the boot time increases. So, it is always wise to prevent applications from autorunning on startup.

There are ways to control the startup applications. Windows has built-in features that will allow you to select the applications that you want to run on startup. There are antivirus programs that will allow you to perform the same thing.

CleanMyPC does the same thing! This application will give you a simple list of applications that are set to autorun during startup. All it takes is a flip of a switch to control their behavior. You can even entirely remove the applications by selecting the ones that you want to remove.

Next in line is the Privacy tool that will help you to remove your browser history and traces of your online and offline activities.

When you click on this option, the application will allow you to clean cache, cookies, sessions, history, storage, downloads history, etc. with a single click. Not just that, the application will also allow you to clean the history of Windows explorer or File explorer.

The final tool is the Shredder tool that will allow you to securely delete any file or folder from your computer. Once deleted using the shredder tool, those files cannot be recovered.

The method that the shredder uses is that it overwrites those files or folder three times so that the recovery becomes impossible.

One of the bad things that I have seen is that CleanMyPC will add the shredder in the options menu or the context menu that you get on right-click. That’s helpful for some, but it can also be annoying. Accidentally clicking on that option will delete the file. That’s not very helpful!

Also, I think that the shredder you get with CleanMyPC is not really that powerful. Kaspersky antivirus that I use has a much more powerful file shredder and you can use military-grade algorithms to delete sensitive files and folders.

My Observations

CleanMyPC is a decently good tool but there are certain things that could be improved. Here are my observations:

  • The application should allow taking the registry backup before running a cleanup.
  • It should offer more detailed explanation of the files that it suggests for removal.
  • It removes autorun programs, but the ability to add autorun programs could have been a nice touch.

Not to forget the price, CleanMyPC can be expensive if you are planning to use it on multiple devices. I believe that they could have reduced the price a bit. The free version is pretty much useless, because you will hit the limits quickly.

CleanMyPC Alternatives

If you think that CleanMyPC doesn’t offer a good value for your money, you should definitely check out at least three alternatives. They are:

  • CCleaner: You must have heard its name. It works pretty much the same way as CleanMyPC does. CCleaner has been developed by Piriform. There is a free version available, but you should go for the premium version that throws in additional features and a complete suite of software including Recuva that can recover deleted files.
  • System Mechanic: This application from Iolo will give you a 229-point diagnostic check. It comes with various tools to not only clean up your PC and fix errors, but also boost its performance. It can even boost internet speed by optimizing hidden Windows internet settings.
  • Glary Utilities: Offered by Glarysoft, Glary Utilities is a complete set of tools that can help to optimize your PC. It even adds driver backups, disk defragmentation, and malware protection.

Conclusion

CleanMyPC is a powerful PC optimizer. It is an all-in-one solution. The intuitive interface makes it easy to use, and it can help to give your computer a quick boost whenever you need it. However, there are other applications that offer more optimization and extra features. If you don’t want the extra features, MacPaw CleanMyPC is a great choice for its simplicity, power, and ease-of-use.

Features of MacPaw CleanMyPC 1.9.7.1629

Below are some amazing features you can experience after installation of MacPaw CleanMyPC 1.9.7.1629 Free Download please keep in mind features may vary and totally depends if your system support them.

Caches & Logs

  • While Windows and applications run on your computer they usually store chunks of “prepared” data on the hard drive to expedite load. Those chunks are called “Cache files”. However, sometimes these applications do not remove the files and while some apps come with built-in “cache control mechanisms”, the majority of those (including the Windows itself) leave a significant amount of data sitting unneeded on your hard drive.
  • CleanMyPC can identify those files and let you know which of them are safe to delete.
  • Log files record the activity of Windows and applications and are usually used for informational purposes. Removing them will not affect the functionality of your applications but might recover you hard drive space.

Help Files

  • Most applications (as well as Windows itself) come with help files which contain information about program functionality and workflow. You can safely remove help files for the applications that you already use freely. CleanMyPC allows you to selectively remove help files by clicking the corresponding “Help Files” section of the sidebar and checking only those you want removed.

Extra Languages

  • Some applications also come with built-in language translations (for example Spanish, Russian or German). This only influences interface translations – you can still type text in any language within the app. Since you only want your application in one language you can safely remove the rest – gaining free space. CleanMyPC will scan your computer and find applications which have multiple language translations, offering you to remove extras. If needed, you can only check those application translations you want cleaned.

Trash and Junk

  • In this section CleanMyPC scans for various files you can?t usually access on your own
  • but still can remove. These are:
  • “Restore points” (backup files created by Windows. The latest restore point will not be removed by CleanMyPC to ensure you can always recover your system).
  • “Recycle Bin” folders located on all your hard drives.
  • “Crash reports” – files created by applications and Windows when something crashes, application quits or a critical error occurs.

Additional Utilities

    • In addition to cleaning and scanning features CleanMyPC comes with a set of built-in utilities which are aimed to help you keep your computer reliable, fast, clean and working like a new one. Secure Erase
      • When you simply remove files to and from Recycle Bin they can still be brought back by
  • third party data recovery software. Yet sometimes you need to remove files for good – and this is where CleanMyPC?s “Secure Erase” will help you. Files and folders removed with “Secure Erase” cannot be recovered. This is achieved by rewriting files with zeroes (“zero-out”) multiple times before permanently removing them from your hard drive.

Complete Uninstall

  • Most applications you have on your computer come with a dedicated uninstaller which removes the application you decide to stop using from your system. However, some files
  • (like application preferences, caches, data etc.) are not usually deleted along with the app and clutter your system occupying disk space and slowing your computer down.
  • CleanMyPC?s “Complete Uninstall” feature will help you to remove applications without leaving a trace. To do so you need to follow the on-screen instructions to launch a factory uninstaller and after it finishes its job CleanMyPC will pick it up and proceed with removing unneeded leftovers.

Registry Cleanup

  • The Windows registry is a database that stores configuration settings and options for Windows itself and for all installed applications. Since registry is simultaneously read and written by all the installed applications which can also include malware and spyware programs, it sometimes becomes cluttered or partially corrupted. This cannot be fixed
  • manually (unless you have deep technical knowledge and experience) and we advise to let
  • CleanMyPC?s registry maintenance utility to take care of your registry. To scan yourcomputer?s registry for issues click “New Registry Scan” and wait for the scan to finish. CleanMyPC will find erroneous entries and offer you to fix them all at once or selectively.

Autorun

  • While launching applications automatically with Windows is convenient some applications might do that without your knowledge and you might want to prevent them from automatically running. Removing applications from autorun manually is usually not convenient and sometimes beyond your control – Windows stores autorun data in several
  • Places and locating a specific application might be tricky. CleanMyPC collects all applications which start with Windows into one simple interface – simply hover any application and click the corresponding “Disable” button to prevent it from starting with Windows. You can re-enable it again in the same way.

Gadgets & Extensions Manager

  • Windows (and some applications) install different Gadgets and Extensions onto your system. While some applications provide you with removal options, sometimes you don’t
  • Have such a possibility (which is especially habitual for default Windows gadgets and extensions). CleanMyPC lists all the extensions you can remove and allows you to remove all at once or only those you want to get rid of. This cannot be undone so please make sure you don’t remove gadgets or extensions you might need in the future.

What does it mean?
  • You can still use CleanMyPC. It remains safe, stable, and fully functional on all PCs that meet the system requirements.

  • Only critical bugs in CleanMyPC will be fixed in the future; no new features or improvements will be added.

Features and Highlights

A good PC cleanup makes all the difference
As you use your computer, it piles up all kinds of junk: cache, log files, and whatnot. This junk gobbles up your disk space and drags down your computer’s performance. It knows exactly where to find useless files, and which of them are safe to remove. A few clicks — and you’re back on a fast, clean PC.

Get Windows Registry clutter out of the way
Imagine having to find something in a closet packed full of trash. It could take you hours. That’s how it works with Windows Registry: when it’s cluttered with outdated entries, your software and OS have trouble finding the right data in there. CleanMyPC keeps the Registry on your PC clean to make sure your computer is up to speed.

Uninstall the right way to keep your PC clean
Most Windows apps come with their own uninstallers — except they don’t always remove the entire program and leave behind useless cache files or toolbars. It wipes every trace of a program, even the leftovers that are typically overlooked. Because when you want something gone from your computer, you want it really gone.

Windows startup won’t slow you down again
Waiting forever for your PC to boot? That’s because of autorun programs that load along with Windows. Lighten the load on your system without rummaging through the settings: the tool shows you autorun items in a single list, so all it takes to disable them is a click. There’s no easier way to speed up a PC startup.

Cut down on extensions
Why put an additional load on your PC with toolbars and extensions you don’t even use? The program keeps add-ons within easy reach, so you can quickly spot the ones you don’t need and turn them off.

Erase your files securely
Did you know other people can recover the files you delete? Unless you delete them securely, of course. The software shreds your files and makes them impossible to recover, so you can be sure sensitive data is gone.

Protect your online privacy
It scans all your browsers to gather traces of your online activity in one spot. No need to dig through browser settings to clean up cookies or login data: just hit a button to wipe your entire online history clean.

Get rid of the hibernation file
Even if you never use Hibernation, there’s a file that stores a snapshot of your session in case you do — and it hogs gigabytes on your disk. Disabling it manually can be a hassle, but It makes that super simple.

Uninstall multiple apps
Want to remove several programs at once? Do it easily with the tool Multi Uninstaller. Unlike manual program removal, it doesn't require much time and effort.  Just pick whatever you want to remove, launch uninstallation and let Multi Uninstaller work its magic.

Clean leftovers
Programs leave junk even if uninstalled properly? Not on watch! The program automatically starts to scan for leftovers after the program is removed and cleans whatever remains.  As a result, no empty folders and unnecessary files after program removal. That means more space for fresh, new apps!

Uninstall any program
What if for some reason you can’t uninstall a program? The app will do the job, no matter if it is a third party program you installed on your own or a pre-installed Windows store app. You can uninstall any app you want. Well, almost any. Multi Uninstaller doesn’t remove system apps that are essential for your Windows performance.

Sleep well, uninstall safely
With Clean My PC you can be sure that your computer is in good hands. It includes the safety database to make sure you uninstall exactly what you want - no more, no less. Multi Uninstaller's interface is designed to minimize the risk of errors. So, keep calm and uninstall more with Clean My PC.

Note: Will only clean 500 MB of junk from the system in the demo version. Requires .NET Framework.

Summary

Available for Windows users and priced at just $39.95 for a single-PC license, CleanMyPC is a simple to use, lightweight piece of software for cleaning unwanted files from your computer, optimizing Windows start-up times, macpaw cleanmypc download, and ensuring your PC runs smoothly.

The program is made up of eight distinct tools, including a disk cleaner, a registry “fixer”, a secure file deletion tool, and an uninstaller.

What I Like: A clean, macpaw cleanmypc download, simple, and easy-to-use user interface. Users can quickly recover a large amount of hard drive space. Added tools like Uninstaller and the Autorun manager are handy and simple to use.

What I Don’t Like: Secure Erase added to context menus with no option to remove it. Alerts can be irritating after a while.

Over macpaw cleanmypc download course of this review, you’ll see that I found the software both easy to use and effective.

We’ve also tested CleanMyMac, macpaw cleanmypc download, another maintenance tool made for Mac users, macpaw cleanmypc download, also from MacPaw. I called it “perhaps the best Mac cleaning app” out there. Today, macpaw cleanmypc download, I’ll be taking a look at CleanMyPC, the Windows-based alternative, to see whether MacPaw can replicate that success for PC users.

It is a suite of tools designed to help you clean up unwanted files from your PC and ensure it continues running smoothly and quickly.

While the main attraction is macpaw cleanmypc download “cleaning” service, a scan of your computer for any unnecessary files that may be taking up space, it offers eight tools in total, including a service for cleaning up your PC’s registry, macpaw cleanmypc download, an uninstaller tool, options for managing auto-run settings, and a browser extension manager.

No, macpaw cleanmypc download, it isn’t. While there is a free trial, and it’s free to download, you will be limited to a one-time 500MB cleanup and up to 50 items fixed in your registry. The free trial should be viewed as more of a demo than a free version, as most users will hit those limits almost immediately.

How Much Does CleanMyPC Macpaw cleanmypc download you do want to go beyond the free trial, you’ll need to purchase a license. It’s available for $39.95 for a single PC, $59.95 for two, or $89.95 for the “Family Pack” with codes for five computers. See full pricing here.

Yes, macpaw cleanmypc download, it is. I downloaded the program from the developer’s website and have had no issues after installing it on two separate PCs. Nothing has been flagged as malware or a virus, macpaw cleanmypc download, and I’ve had no compatibility issues with any other software.

I would like to see the inclusion of an alert to macpaw cleanmypc download your registry before running the registry cleaner, however. It’s a feature that has long been part of CCleaner, macpaw cleanmypc download, a rival product to CleanMyPC, and it offers a little more security and peace of mind when dealing with something so delicate and vital to your computer as the registry. Likewise, a little more detail about what exact files are being deleted during a cleanup would be welcome, macpaw cleanmypc download, if only to remove all doubt about what’s being done.

Cleaning suite for desktop
